He contested the general assembly elections in 2009 from the Mathura constituency in Uttar Pradesh and won the seat. Jayant Chaudhary participated first time in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections as the RLD chief, in an alliance with the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav, in 2022, after the death of his father Ajit Singh Chaudhary in 2021.
