Early Life and Education

Peter Docherty was born on October 15, 1940, in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

He graduated from the University of Queensland in 1966 and went on to earn his PhD from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in 1970.

Scientific Career

Returning to Australia, Doherty joined the John Curtin School of Medical Research in Canberra, where he conducted pioneering research in immunology. His discoveries on antigen recognition by T lymphocytes provided the foundation for his later award-winning work.
