Born on Sept. 26 in Shanghai, Sun started to dance during her childhood. At the age of 11, she was chosen as a representative of the Shanghai Children's Artist Troupe to visit Britain, the United States and Japan.

At the age of 15, she enrolled into the Shanghai Garrison Song and Dance Ensemble to serve in the army for three years.
